For this assignment, I looked at the architecture of the Baroque period. I tried to Model after The Winter Palace, Located in St. Petersburg, Russia. I chose this building for two reasons. The first one is that I thought the highly repetitive style of the baroque period represented an exciting challenge that I wanted to take on. The second reason that I chose this building is simply that I am very fond of the baroque architecture style. I s find the style to be quite beautiful with its bright colours and simple building shape, which emphasizes the complex decorative inlays. When people think of 'castles,' they likely think of Victorian or Gothic style Architecture. The Winter Palace, with its baroque style, is a building that I find very unique and one that I was pretty excited to work on. The shape that I used the most was the rectangle. The Baroque style is very square in building shape and has several rectangular windows. The circle tool was used primarily for the decorati...
For my first assignment on the bespoke object, I would like to create a laser-cut mirror prism as part of my drawing project. I want this piece to be a series of mirrors designed using CAD techniques and then laser-cut so they fit together and can be hung from the ceiling. This object is meant to act as a mirror or kaleidoscope in the center of the room, and the completed project will have projectors playing films at the object that reflect the colour back onto the wall. Essentially turning the entire room itself into one giant prism. The laser cutter is one tool needed to create this project. Physically, the piece will need some type of transparent wire that is strong enough to suspend it from the ceiling. Below are several rough sketches and the reference material used. I like aspects of all the designs. What I am prioritizing when choosing which design is ultimately how feasible it is to create in the time frame we have to work in and which object will be the most efficient at ...
Below are my favourite pieces that were entered in the Object Design Show. I was most drawn to the pieces showcasing fine line work or different mark-making styles. There were so many amazing and creative pieces, but these are the ones that I found myself going back to view several times.s What I found interesting about this piece was the symmetry of the design and the variance in the mark-making. The wings of the butterfly are perfectly symmetrical, with very fine mark-making. The line work is so fine that I find it difficult to believe that it was made by a computer if it weren't for the fact that there is not a single flaw in those lines. However, the butterfly's body,y,r, breaks up the symmetry. The thorax is made with rough, scratchy lines, and the head is a pattern of a microscopic slide. Having this portion not symmetrical makes the piece visually interesting to look at. Another aspect that works well within this piece is that the lines are not contained. By another l...
