Replicated/Remediated Object Design

Image
Object Design #1 The Saturn V rocket launch inspired my first idea for this project. This idea came from a project I had previously worked on, attempting to model this rocket in 3D space, and I thought the rocket itself was interestingly shaped, and I wanted the curviness of the smoke that comes off the rocket. Therefore, this is my first choice for this project, as the finished design is completely symmetrical and straightforward enough to cast, considering I have never worked this way before. Inspiration Models Object Design #2 The second design idea for this project was more of an experimentation of creating the shape only using Grasshopper. I feel less strongly about the design and how it would be cast, as each level is built with polygons whose segments could be changed. This can cause pinching and weird shapes with the geometry, and I do not know how this would work with the casting or the 3D printer. Nevertheless, I thought the model produced some nice designs, but I decided to

Stacked Slices

Here is the finished version of the 'Stacked Slices' model. I originally had a little tower of acrylic pieces that protruded from the center of the stand, however, the stands that I had 3D printed for them had failed in the printer and I could not find a solution that looked good in time for the submission. Below is a picture of the original grasshopper gif.

Stacked Shapes Progress Blog #2

Here is the layout for my stacked shapes laser cut. I plan on cutting on white cast acrylic. I have an appointment booked for the afternoon Monday, after the due date for the blog post, so I only have the layout to show right now. Here is the stand that I have 3D printed to hold the laser-cut slices.  Thats all I have for now; thank you for checking out my blog.
